02/16/2009 - Foster Grant Celebrates the Academy AwardsFGX International (NASDAQ: FGXI), a leading eyewear designer and marketer, is pleased to announce Foster Grant’s participation as a sponsor of a celebrity retreat and gifting house, HAVEN by HFM Media, during Academy Awards Week 2009 in a luxurious private estate in Beverly Hills. Foster Grant, the world’s largest distributor of sunglasses, will have a display on-site February 18 through February 20 to showcase their wide variety of stylish sunglasses and reading glasses and to gift and interact with Hollywood’s hottest stars.
Foster Grant will be inviting attendees to pose with sunglasses for photographers near signs with its iconic tagline, “Who’s That Behind Those Foster Grants?” Celebrities will be invited to autograph Foster Grants to be auctioned off this summer for charity as part of the brand’s 80th Anniversary celebration, revisiting the brand's positioning as the "Sunglasses of the Stars". Foster Grant will also be featured in the Yansi Fugel Spring Collection fashion show on Friday, February 20th.
“Foster Grant has historically had a very close connection to Hollywood,” says Richard Kornhauser, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of FGX International. “Our famous ‘Who’s That Behind Those Foster Grants?’ tagline was made popular by Hollywood legends like Raquel Welch, Mia Farrow, and Woody Allen. It was back then that sunglasses first became synonymous with ‘cool.’ We are thrilled to be able to return to our roots and participate in HAVEN this year, as it is a particularly noteworthy year for the brand.”
HAVEN will offer attendees an exclusive daily combination of charitable activities, personal services, entertainment, refreshments and private VIP/celebrity events each evening. Both talent and media will be encouraged to sample and participate in daytime and evening experiences, all with the active participation and coverage of five of HFM’s media properties including Elle, American Photo, Elle Décor, Metropolitan Home and Premiere.
