In 1929, Sam Foster sold his first pair of sunglasses on the Atlantic City boardwalk, and launched not just a company but a nationwide demand for The Original American Sunglass Brand®.

 

During the golden era of Hollywood, Foster Grant became the sunglasses of choice for style icons and celebrities such as Raquel Welch. That star power led Foster Grant to launch its iconic "Who's That Behind Those Foster Grants®" advertising campaign, which went on to become one of the world's most well-known slogans and was recognized in Ad Age’s "Top 100 Campaigns of the 20th Century."

 

As our company – and customers – grew up, it occurred to us that reading glasses could, and should, be every bit as stylish and contemporary as our sunglasses. So we turned our designers and technologists loose, and revolutionized the readers category for a new generation of people who didn’t want to look like their grandparents or pay prescription-grade prices.
