When it comes to sunglasses, the most important feature to look for is 100% UVA-UVB lens protection. Once you have that, you should buy a pair that you like and are sure to wear whenever you go outside.

If you’ve ever shopped for sunglasses, you know how good it feels to find the perfect pair. While most styles look good on a variety of face shapes, some may flatter a triangle-shaped face more than others

Read on for tips to help you find the perfect sunglasses for your triangle face shape.

How to Tell if You Have a Triangle-Shaped Face

Follow these steps to know for sure if you have a triangle face shape:

  • Get a soft tape measure, a piece of paper, and a pen or pencil.

  • Stand in front of a mirror and move your hair away from your face.

  • To measure the length of your face, hold the tape measure vertically with the top at the highest point of your forehead. Then roll it down to the bottom of your chin and write down the number.

  • Next, measure the widest part of your face. This can be your forehead, cheekbones (just under the outer corners of your eyes), or your jawline. Write down that number.

  • To measure your jawline, hold the tape measure at the tip of your chin and out to just below your ear. You can repeat this on the other side of your face or multiply the number by two to get the full width.

  • Now look at the shape of your jawline. Is it round or angular?

If your jawline is angular and it’s also the widest part of your face, you have a triangle-shaped face.

Your face shape may be less common than others, but that doesn’t mean it will be harder for you to find the best sunglasses for a triangle face shape.

Characteristics of a Triangle-Shaped Face

Take a look in the mirror. If you have these characteristics, you may have a triangle face shape:

  • Narrow forehead

  • Cheekbones no wider than your forehead or chin

  • Broad, square jawline

  • Flat chin

What Sunglasses Suit a Triangular Face Shape?

Plenty of sunglasses styles complement triangle-shaped faces. Here are some things to consider when you’re shopping for sunglasses:

  • Balance – When choosing shades, look for frames that are wider at the top to draw the eyes up. This style creates balance with your broader jawline.

  • Proportion – Look for a style that will complement your face, not overpower it. Consider frames with color and details at the top to draw the eye up.

  • Comfort – Great-looking sunglasses can’t protect your eyes if you don’t wear them. Make sure the pair you choose is comfortable and fits securely on your face.
